SICK BANK – What is it and how to use it.

As noted in our contract:
“The purpose of the Sick Leave Bank is to allow the extension of sick leave
benefits to an employee who because of a life threatening, serious illness or
injury, has exhausted his / her sick, personal and all but (5) days of vacation
leave. Excluded from participation in the bank are employees on Workers
Compensation.”

The Sick Bank can hold up to 250 days – thankfully we have never dropped too low to have to ask for additional time from our members.

What do you need to do to join if you are not a member?
During annual open enrollment – contact the Benefits office – and donate 2 sick days.

Why donate?
Hopefully none of us ever find a need to ask for this time – that is first and foremost!
But if that situation ever happens – an employee may be granted up to 60 days in one fiscal year.
That means you have a little less to worry about during a serious illness.

What else can you do?
For a truly small weekly amount – sign up for Short Term Disability and / or Long Term Disability.
Information can be obtained through the TOB website: (link below) or by calling 508-862-4694

The Bank has had 2 requests this year:
Request 1 asked for 30 days and was granted 20 days
Request 2 asked for and was granted 20 days

So, if you are a member, thank you!
If you are not a member…please consider joining during the next enrollment period!
